In a shocking incident in Manikganj district town, a young woman was allegedly coerced into sexual activity under the pretext of employment at a local beauty parlor. Acting on intelligence, police rescued the victim late on Saturday night and arrested three individuals, who were later formally charged with rape and sexual abuse.
| Name | Age | Relation/Position |
|---|---|---|
| Ratna Yasmin | 40 | Owner of the beauty parlor |
| Md. Tushar Rahman | 24 | Son of the parlor owner |
| Tajnin Akter, alias Chandni | 23 | Associate of the parlor |
The police also named two other individuals as suspects; however, they evaded capture when authorities arrived on the scene. The victim, who sustained physical injuries, was immediately admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital in the district for medical treatment.
According to the police complaint, the beauty parlor had been operating as a front for sexual exploitation for an extended period. The victim, employed at the parlor, was reportedly forced into sexual acts by Ratna Yasmin and her accomplices.
The complaint further states that the situation escalated when the victim’s younger sister visited her home on Wednesday. Upon discovering the presence of her sister, the accused allegedly suggested involving her in the illicit activities as well. The victim refused the proposal. The following night, at approximately 1:00 a.m., the accused reportedly visited the victim’s residence, applying pressure to coerce her compliance.
The victim recounted that she was physically assaulted and forcibly taken to the parlor. There, she was beaten with rods, restrained with shackles, had her hair cut with scissors, and her face smeared with ink as a form of humiliation.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station, Ikram Hossain, confirmed that five individuals have been listed as defendants in the complaint. “Three suspects have already been apprehended, and operations are ongoing to capture the remaining two,” he stated.
This case has highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by women in employment sectors often operating with minimal oversight. Authorities have assured that those involved will face stringent legal consequences, sending a strong message against sexual exploitation.
The Manikganj community has expressed outrage over the incident, calling for swift justice and stricter monitoring of establishments operating under similar guises. Local law enforcement has pledged to intensify patrols and inspections of businesses suspected of facilitating sexual exploitation to prevent recurrence of such crimes.
