Masked Robbers Loot Farmer’s Home in Monirampur

In a shocking pre-dawn raid, a group of masked intruders stormed the home of a local farmer in Monirampur, Jessore, leaving the family injured and making off with cash and valuables. The incident occurred on Saturday, 20 December, at approximately 3:30 am at the residence of Nirmal Das in the Jolkor Rohita Daspara area.

According to the victims, the robbers arrived in a private car and a motorcycle. A team of 7–8 masked individuals broke the gate of the house and forced their way inside. They physically assaulted Nirmal Das and his wife, Sushama Das, before looting 5–7 bhori of gold jewellery and cash of BDT 40,000, which included money from recently sold paddy. The intruders threatened to kill the family’s two young children if anyone raised an alarm.

Nirmal Das recounted the terrifying ordeal:

“Around 3:30 am, 7–8 masked men broke the gate and entered our home. They assaulted me and when I tried to escape, they struck my head with a rod, and I fell to the floor. They then attacked my wife, daughter and son-in-law, ransacked the almirah and stole 5–7 bhori of gold and 40,000 taka in cash. When we tried to shout, they threatened to kill our children.”

Sushama Das added:

“I attempted to shout by opening the window, but they held my mouth and beat me. They even showed a pistol and threatened to kill us if we made any noise.”

The farmer had recently sold 150 mon of paddy and received around BDT 100,000, of which 55,000 taka was used to settle debts and the remainder kept at home. The robbers had parked their vehicles in a nearby bamboo grove and fled with the stolen items.

Khedapara Camp Police In-Charge SI Shahabur Rahman confirmed that CCTV footage from nearby markets is being reviewed, while Monirampur Thana OC Raziullah Khan stated:

“We visited the scene immediately. Injured family members have been sent for medical treatment. Once they are fit, a formal case will be recorded and action taken.”

The incident has left the local community shaken, highlighting concerns over security in rural areas and the growing threat of organised robberies targeting farmers with cash and valuables at home. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
