Massive Ranking Shock! Mustafizur & Parvez Make Stunning Leaps After Ireland Series

Bangladesh’s impressive performance against Ireland in the recently concluded T20I series has finally been reflected in the latest ICC rankings. The weekly update released today brought a wave of good news for the Tigers, as several Bangladeshi cricketers made significant jumps in the charts after showcasing consistent form throughout the three-match series.

The biggest mover in the batting department was opener Parvez Hossain Emon, whose confidence and controlled aggression caught the attention of many. Scoring 77 runs at an average of 38.50 across three innings, Parvez climbed an astonishing 21 spots to reach 38th position in the ICC T20I batting rankings. His innings were not massive in numbers, but each contribution came at crucial stages, making him one of Bangladesh’s most reliable performers in the series.

Hot on his heels was Tawhid Hridoy, who delivered the highest total runs in the series despite batting in only two innings. His elegant stroke play and match-defining shots resulted in 89 runs, the most by any player in the series. The ICC rewarded him with a five-place jump, taking him to 43rd. For a young player still developing his identity in international cricket, this improvement is a strong testament to his progress.

In the bowling department, Mustafizur Rahman—who has been Bangladesh’s most consistent T20 bowler in recent years—finally received long-overdue upward movement. Previously ranked 10th, Mustafizur’s figures of three wickets for 73 runs across three matches helped him advance to 8th position. His trademark cutters and slower variations once again proved difficult for batters to handle, reaffirming his reputation as a T20 specialist.

Bangladesh’s spinners also made headlines. Mehidy Hasan produced an outstanding performance, taking 4 wickets for 49 runs across two matches. This earned him a three-spot jump, pushing him into the 14th spot among T20I bowlers. Rishad Hossain, with 4 wickets for 55 runs in two innings, rose five places to become the 19th-ranked bowler. Veteran left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed made similar progress, climbing five positions to 25th.

Outside Bangladesh, major developments occurred following India’s ongoing ODI series against South Africa. The spotlight was once again on Virat Kohli, who scored a monumental 135 runs in the first match. That innings lifted the Indian superstar to 4th place in the ODI batting list. His current rating of 751 puts him only 32 points behind Rohit Sharma, the world’s No. 1. Kohli has not been at the top of the ODI rankings since April 2021, and this performance may mark the beginning of his comeback.

In the T20I all-rounder rankings, Pakistan’s Saim Ayub regained the No. 1 spot after scoring 118 runs and taking 3 wickets in the recent tri-nation series in Rawalpindi. He had previously lost the top position to Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, but his complete all-round performance has now restored him to the summit.

In Test cricket, South Africa’s pace sensation Marco Jansen made a remarkable leap after helping his team win a historic series on Indian soil. Jansen climbed five spots to secure 5th place among Test bowlers. Fellow South African spinner Simon Harmer made an even bigger jump—13 places—to land at No. 11.

For Bangladesh, the latest ICC update is more than just a statistical improvement. It signals momentum ahead of upcoming series and highlights the team’s rising depth, particularly among young players eager to make their mark on the global stage.
