Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone began her campaign at the US Track and Field Championships with a commanding win in the women’s 400 metres heats on Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The reigning two-time Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles, McLaughlin-Levrone, opted not to compete in her signature event and instead focused on the flat 400m. The 25-year-old remained in full control throughout the heat, clocking an impressive 49.59 seconds, finishing well ahead of her competitors.
Performances – Women’s 400m Heats:
| Athlete | Time (s) | Placement |
| Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone | 49.59 | 1st (Heat Winner) |
| Lynna Irby-Jackson | 50.59 | 2nd in McLaughlin’s Heat |
| Isabella Whittaker | 50.07 | 2nd Fastest Overall |
| Britton Wilson | 50.25 | 3rd Fastest Overall |
McLaughlin-Levrone’s time was the only sub-50-second mark in the opening round, underscoring her dominance. Her decision to run the 400m flat appears to be paying off, as she looks to claim the national title in a non-hurdle event.
The women’s 400m final is scheduled for Saturday, where McLaughlin-Levrone will aim to continue her winning form.
