Meta has removed Asif Mahmud’s Facebook page.

The official Facebook page of Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya, a former advisor to the caretaker government, has been removed by Meta. The page, which boasted over 3 million followers, was recently taken down following reports submitted to the social media giant.

According to available information, the removal of the page was triggered by complaints regarding posts featuring Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson of the Inquilab Mancha. Meta reportedly acted on these reports, leading to the deletion of the high-profile account.

Asif Mahmud confirmed the incident on his personal Facebook profile on Friday, 26 February. In his post, he explained that the removal of his official page was a result of organised reporting and strikes against specific content related to Osman Hadi.

He wrote, “All posts and videos concerning Osman Hadi were struck and reported in an organised manner, resulting in the removal of my official page, which had more than 3 million followers.”

Mahmud further revealed that several Telegram groups had shared links to his page to facilitate mass reporting. Three particular videos related to Osman Hadi were specifically targeted, prompting Meta to act under its content policy.

This incident has sparked debate over the role of coordinated reporting on social media platforms and the accountability of tech giants in moderating content. Observers note that while Meta has guidelines against harassment and misinformation, mass reporting campaigns can sometimes result in the removal of content without broader context.

The following table summarises the key details surrounding the removal of Asif Mahmud’s Facebook page:

The removal of such a widely followed page has raised questions about the balance between user reporting mechanisms and the protection of public figures’ social media presence. Analysts stress the need for transparent processes that distinguish between legitimate complaints and orchestrated campaigns aimed at silencing specific voices.

As the debate continues, followers of Asif Mahmud’s page are reportedly seeking alternative channels to stay updated on his activities, highlighting the significant impact that the page had on social media discourse in the region.

It is noteworthy that earlier, Meta had removed two Facebook pages of the controversial activist Elias Hossain.
