Metro Rail Service Under New Ramadan Timetable

In observance of the holy month of Ramadan, the Dhaka Metro Rail will operate on a special timetable during weekdays, aligning with adjusted office hours. This schedule will be in effect from Thursday, the first day of Ramadan, up until the day before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The announcement came through an official directive signed by A K M Khairul Alam, Director (Administration) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), on Tuesday. The directive emphasised that while weekday services will follow the revised timings, services on Saturdays, Fridays, and other public holidays will remain unchanged.

According to the revised schedule, trains on the Uttara North–Motijheel route will commence at 6:30 AM, with the last service departing at 9:30 PM. Conversely, trains from Motijheel to Uttara North will begin at 7:15 AM, concluding at 10:10 PM.

Route First Train Last Train Notes
Uttara North → Motijheel 06:30 21:30 Weekday service only; Sat/Fri unchanged
Motijheel → Uttara North 07:15 22:10 Weekday service only; Sat/Fri unchanged

DMTCL has also issued specific guidelines for passengers during Ramadan, particularly concerning the iftar period. Each commuter is permitted to carry only a 250ml bottle of water within metro and station premises. Passengers are advised to handle water carefully to avoid spillage.

Used bottles must be disposed of responsibly in the dustbins located at platforms, concourses, and entry/exit gates. Importantly, no other food or beverages are allowed inside the platforms, concourses, or trains throughout the holy month. These measures aim to ensure both cleanliness and passenger safety while accommodating the religious practices of commuters.

DMTCL officials have encouraged all passengers to plan their journeys in accordance with the special Ramadan timetable and to cooperate with staff in maintaining hygiene standards. The company has also assured commuters that operational staff will be available at stations to provide guidance and ensure smooth train operations during the busy iftar hours.

With these adjustments, the Dhaka Metro Rail seeks to facilitate daily travel for commuters while respecting the spiritual and practical considerations of Ramadan. Passengers are advised to stay updated on any further announcements, especially if additional public holidays or special events affect train schedules.
