Metro Station to Close Temporarily Today

Today, in connection with the inauguration of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair, the Dhaka University metro station will remain closed for a temporary period of two hours. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend the fair as the chief guest, and the authorities have implemented special security arrangements around the venue.

The metro station will be non-operational from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, during which no passengers will be allowed to enter or exit, and no trains will stop at the station. This temporary closure has been confirmed by the metro station authorities on Thursday, 26 February.

The Amar Ekushey Book Fair this year features 549 publishing houses, spread across two main areas. Bangla Academy premises host 81 publishers, while Suhrawardy Udyan accommodates 468. In total, the fair comprises 1,018 units, compared with 708 publishers and 1,084 units last year.

Additionally, the fair includes special thematic sections:

Little Magazine Courtyard, located under the trees beside the open stage in Suhrawardy Udyan, houses 87 little magazine stalls.

Children’s Courtyard hosts 63 publishing houses and 107 units dedicated to young readers.

The fair, which is one of Bangladesh’s most prominent literary events, attracts thousands of visitors daily. The temporary closure of the Dhaka University metro station is intended to ensure smooth traffic management and maintain heightened security during the Prime Minister’s presence.
