Midday Storm Alert for Six Districts

The national meteorological authorities have issued an early warning of possible storms across six districts, advising heightened caution at inland river ports as unsettled weather conditions are expected to develop by midday.

According to the latest forecast, released at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday and valid until 1:00 p.m., several مناطق may experience temporary but potentially intense weather disturbances. The affected districts include Mymensingh, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet.

The forecast indicates that winds may blow from the west or north-west at speeds ranging between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour. These gusts could be accompanied by rainfall or thundershowers, raising concerns over short-term disruptions, particularly in riverine and coastal areas.

Authorities have instructed inland river ports within these regions to display Signal No. 1, a cautionary alert advising vessels and operators to remain vigilant. While this signal does not indicate severe danger, it serves as an important precaution against sudden squalls and adverse weather conditions that may affect navigation.

Meteorologists note that such pre-monsoon weather patterns are not uncommon during this time of year, when atmospheric instability often leads to the rapid formation of thunderstorms. However, even short-lived storms can pose risks, especially for smaller vessels, fishing boats, and unprotected infrastructure.

Residents in the affected districts have been urged to stay informed through official weather updates and to take necessary precautions. Farmers, in particular, are advised to safeguard crops and equipment, as strong winds and heavy rain could cause localised damage. Urban areas may also experience brief waterlogging if rainfall intensifies within a short period.

Below is a summary of the key forecast details:

Region Wind Direction Wind Speed (km/h) Weather Conditions Warning Signal
Mymensingh West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1
Cumilla West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1
Noakhali West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1
Chattogram West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1
Cox’s Bazar West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1
Sylhet West/North-West 45–60 Rain/Thundershowers, Gusty Winds Signal No. 1

Officials emphasise that the situation will be closely monitored, and further updates will be issued if conditions worsen. In the meantime, river transport operators and the general public are encouraged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of inclement weather.
