Argentina’s embattled President Javier Milei embraced his rockstar image on Monday to promote his latest book, claiming it charts the nation’s economic “miracle.”
Title: The Making of the Miracle: the Argentine Case
Length: 573 pages, primarily composed of Milei’s speeches over the past year
Launch Event: Rock concert at the Movistar Arena, Buenos Aires (capacity: 15,000)
Milei’s book is being released amid a turbulent period in his nearly two-year presidency:
| Event | Impact |
| Mid-term elections approaching (26 October) | Milei’s minority party seeks to expand seats |
| Peso crisis last month | Forced Milei to seek financial assistance from Washington |
| Congressional vetoes overturned | Spending increases for public universities & emergency paediatric care approved, challenging Milei’s zero-deficit goal |
| Candidate withdrawal | Top mid-term candidate dropped out due to links to suspected drug traffickers |
On Monday afternoon, Milei posted an Instagram video ahead of the concert, showing himself in his signature leather jacket, dishevelled hair, and getting ready for the gig.
He sang a riff on Argentine rocker Charly García’s Tu Vicio (Your Vice): “I’m the most liberal / You can’t step on me because I’m capitalist.”
Police established a ring of steel around the concert hall to prevent clashes between pro- and anti-Milei demonstrators.
Nearby, a protest banner highlighted the decline in consumer spending since Milei took office in December 2023: “Milei, it’s a miracle anyone comes in to buy anything.”
During previous campaigning in a low-income Buenos Aires neighbourhood, Milei was even pelted with stones, underscoring public discontent.
Milei, an economist and former TV pundit, won the presidency as a political outsider, vowing to end corruption and revive Argentina’s economy.
Achievements celebrated by supporters:
| Achievement | Details |
| Inflation reduction | From over 200% at the end of 2023 to 33% in August 2025 |
| Budget balance | First balanced budget in 14 years |
| Global right acclaim | Seen as a champion of economic reform |
Criticism:
The contrast between Milei’s euphoria and the concerns of ordinary residents in Villa Crespo is stark. While he channels a rockstar persona, many Argentines face economic hardship, reflecting the polarising nature of his presidency.
The concert-cum-book launch highlights Milei’s effort to reignite public enthusiasm, blending populist politics, economic ideology, and showmanship in the lead-up to crucial mid-term elections.
