In a decisive strike against illicit arms possession, the Bangladesh Army conducted a specialised operation in the Dhunot upazila of Bogra, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals and the recovery of a significant cache of weaponry. The raid, which took place on Thursday afternoon, underscores the military's ongoing commitment to maintaining public safety and internal security.
Acting on precise intelligence, a military contingent led by Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Ahmed Tamal from the Youth Development Camp near Bogra Railway Gate descended upon a residence in the Baberbari Babur Bazar area of the Nimkachi union. At approximately 4:00 pm, the troops secured the premises and conducted a thorough search of the property.
The residence was reportedly being used as a temporary hideout by the suspects, who had rented the house from a local resident identified as Khokon Mia. During the search, security forces discovered and confiscated:
One operative pistol.
Three large, locally manufactured machetes (locally known as chapatti).
The two suspects were taken into custody without incident. Authorities have identified them as residents of the neighbouring Shahjahanpur upazila. Their details are summarised in the table below:
| Name | Father’s Name | Village of Origin | Age |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rayhan Ali Rana | Ijar Uddin | Khanna Omar Dighi | 40 |
| Feroz Poddar | Jamal Poddar | Shakpala | 38 |
Following the successful raid, the army personnel handed over the suspects and the seized weaponry to the Dhunot Police Station. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Atiqul Islam, confirmed the receipt of the detainees and the illicit items.
"The military has handed over the two individuals caught with a pistol and several domestic weapons," OC Islam stated. "We are currently in the process of filing the necessary paperwork, and stringent legal action will be initiated against the accused in accordance with the Arms Act."
This operation is part of a broader crackdown on criminal elements and illegal armaments in the region. Local residents have expressed a sense of relief following the arrests, noting that the presence of such weaponry in a residential area posed a severe threat to the community's tranquility. Investigations are currently underway to determine the intended use of the weapons and whether the suspects are linked to any larger insurgent or criminal networks.
