[Dhaka, 15 May 2025] — In a significant stride towards promoting cultural diplomacy and international goodwill, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh is set to launch its inaugural Diplomatic Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament in Dhaka. The event will commence tomorrow, 16 May, at the premises of the International School Dhaka (ISD), located in the Bashundhara residential area of the capital.
Following the tremendous success of previous diplomatic football and cricket tournaments—organised in partnership with Gameplay Limited—this new edition expands the Ministry’s diplomatic sports initiative by including badminton and table tennis.
The tournament will feature table tennis competitions in both singles and doubles categories, while badminton will be contested in the doubles format only. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Friday, 16 May, with the closing ceremony and prize distribution taking place on Saturday, 17 May 2025.
Several prominent brands have partnered to support this initiative. The event’s main sponsors are City Bank and Purbani Group. Other partners include International School Dhaka (venue partner), LIJIAN (logistics partner), Polar (ice cream partner), Jamuna TV (media partner), Akboria (food partner), Jheel Maesteria (café partner), and Aster Pharmacy (jersey partner). Their valued support is instrumental in transforming this tournament into a vibrant celebration of diplomacy through sport.
Over the course of two days, more than a hundred participants representing embassies, high commissions, and international organisations based in Dhaka will take part. The tournament aims to foster healthy competition, cultural exchange, and deeper interpersonal connections among members of the diplomatic and international community in Bangladesh.
