Misty Morning, But No Chill Shock for Dhaka Residents

Dhaka greeted the new day beneath a gentle blanket of light to moderate fog, offering city dwellers a calm yet chilly winter morning. As the capital slowly awakened, visibility was slightly reduced in some areas, adding a muted, almost cinematic feel to the early hours. Despite the winter influence and the misty start, meteorologists have confirmed that no major change in temperature is expected throughout the day.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the weather in Dhaka and its surrounding regions is expected to remain dry for the next several hours. While the sky may appear partly cloudy at times, the overall conditions are likely to stay stable, maintaining the familiar rhythm of winter mornings that residents have grown accustomed to in recent weeks.

The official forecast issued on Monday morning, covering the six-hour period from 7am onwards, indicates that Dhaka’s daytime temperature will show little to no fluctuation. This stability comes as a relief for commuters, office workers, and students who often brace themselves for sudden cold snaps during the peak winter season.

Meteorologists also noted that light to moderate fog may linger during the morning hours, especially in low-lying areas and open spaces. However, as the day progresses towards noon, the sky is expected to clear slightly, remaining temporarily partly cloudy. Gentle winds blowing from the north or north-west at speeds between five and ten kilometres per hour may add a mild chill to the air, but nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year.

Temperature readings taken at 6am showed Dhaka’s temperature at 17.0 degrees Celsius, accompanied by a relatively high humidity level of 89 per cent. This combination of cool air and moisture contributed significantly to the formation of morning fog. The lowest temperature recorded for the day stood at 16.9 degrees Celsius, while the previous day’s maximum temperature reached 24.1 degrees Celsius.

The city is set to experience sunset at 5:17pm, marking another short winter day, with sunrise expected tomorrow at 6:38am. Notably, no rainfall was recorded in Dhaka over the past 24 hours, reinforcing the forecast of dry conditions.

Looking beyond the capital, the nationwide forecast paints a similar picture. Across the country, weather conditions are expected to remain dry with temporarily partly cloudy skies. From midnight through the early morning hours, moderate to dense fog may form in some regions, potentially affecting road visibility and early travel.

Meteorologists have further indicated that daytime temperatures across Bangladesh are likely to remain nearly unchanged, suggesting a steady continuation of the current winter pattern. As Dhaka eases into the heart of the season, residents can expect more misty mornings, mild afternoons, and the comforting predictability of winter weather that defines this time of year.
