Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented six distinctive gifts to Russian President Vladimir Putin, each chosen from culturally significant regions of India. The collection includes Assam’s renowned tea and Kashmir’s premium saffron, two items widely recognised for their exceptional quality.
Putin visited India for the annual India–Russia Summit, arriving in New Delhi at 6:35 pm local time on Thursday. Modi welcomed him at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where the Russian leader received a formal red-carpet reception.
During the visit, Modi handed Putin a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita. The ancient text records the celebrated dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna before the commencement of the Mahabharata war. Modi described the gift as a symbol of India’s spiritual heritage and philosophical depth.
Among the other gifts was a handcrafted silver tea set from Murshidabad in West Bengal, featuring engraved teacups, a kettle and several containers. Modi also presented a silver horse crafted in Maharashtra and a marble chess set produced in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, each reflecting India’s artistic craftsmanship.
India and Russia have strengthened bilateral ties in recent years. Despite the United States imposing a fifty per cent tariff on Indian products because of India’s continued purchase of Russian crude oil, New Delhi has not altered its trade policy. Putin reaffirmed this mutual commitment during his visit, indicating the resilience of the partnership between the two nations.
