Mohammadpur Police Net Shawon and Four Others

In a decisive military operation in the Chand Uddyan area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka, five individuals, including Shawon (23), the prime suspect in a high-profile murder case, have been apprehended. Authorities reported that the operation also led to the seizure of a significant cache of weapons, explosives, and narcotics.

The operation, which concluded around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 4 February, was conducted in the Shona Miar Tek and Chand Uddyan localities, following intelligence received near the Basila Army Camp. Shawon, who had been evading capture for an extended period, came under scrutiny after a video circulated on social media last year showing him fatally attacking an individual in broad daylight.

Acting on confidential intelligence, a military special operations team swiftly reached the location and apprehended Shawon. During the same operation, four of his associates were also detained. The identities of the other suspects are: Anwar (25), Shakil (23), Shuvo (20), and Belal (36).

A wide array of items was confiscated from the suspects, including petrol bombs, firearms, bladed weapons, and narcotics. The recovered materials are summarised in the table below:

Local residents expressed their gratitude to the army patrol team, highlighting that Shawon’s gang had long instilled fear in the community through various criminal activities.

A senior officer from the 46th Independent Infantry Brigade stated, “Shawon brutally murdered an individual in broad daylight last year. CCTV footage allowed us to identify him. Several prior operations failed to capture him, but last night’s meticulously planned operation successfully apprehended him along with his arsenal of weapons.”

Following the arrests, the suspects are scheduled to be handed over to the Mohammadpur Police Station to undergo the legal process. Authorities emphasised that the operation reflects an ongoing commitment to curb organised crime and ensure community safety.
