Mother Killed in Oil Tanker Collision in Moheshpur

A tragic road accident in Moheshpur, Jhenaidah, claimed the life of 45-year-old Fuljuri Khatun on Wednesday morning, leaving her son critically injured. The incident occurred near Khalishpur Cold Store at approximately 11:00 AM, when an oil-laden truck collided with the van in which the victims were travelling.

According to police and local sources, Fuljuri Khatun, a resident of Nimtola village and wife of Fakir Ahmed, was accompanying her son, Lavlu Hossain, to a doctor when the accident occurred. The truck, reportedly coming from the opposite direction, struck the van and fled the scene at high speed. Fuljuri Khatun was pronounced dead at the scene, while her son suffered severe injuries. He was initially admitted to a local hospital and later transferred to Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital for advanced medical treatment due to the critical nature of his condition.

The Moheshpur police have secured the truck involved in the collision, although the driver remains at large. Police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the fugitive driver.

Officer-in-Charge of Moheshpur Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, told Kaler Kantho:
“The truck involved in this tragic accident has been recovered. Although the driver fled the scene, efforts to apprehend him are ongoing.”

Local residents expressed shock over the sudden accident, describing the road as increasingly hazardous due to frequent heavy vehicle traffic. Community members have called for stricter traffic enforcement and better road safety measures to prevent such fatal incidents in the future.

This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by commuters on busy rural roads, particularly when oil tankers and other large commercial vehicles operate without adequate safety oversight. Authorities have urged drivers and pedestrians alike to exercise extreme caution until further safety measures are implemented.
