Mother’s Heartbreak as Son Brutally Killed in Dispute

Munshiganj, Bangladesh – A 27-year-old man was fatally attacked while attempting to intervene in a family dispute between two brothers in Gajaria Upazila, sparking outrage and grief in the local community.

The victim, Jannat Hossain, son of Abdul Haque of Noyanagar village in Gajaria Union, was reportedly lured from his home and attacked with sharp weapons by the two brothers. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, 20 December, in the Noyanagar area.

According to local sources, the altercation began when neighbours Tarek and Riyad, two brothers, engaged in a heated quarrel. Tarek’s mother, Taslima Begum, reportedly called Jannat to the scene to help mediate the dispute. Both brothers were allegedly armed with sharp cleavers. In a shocking turn, Jannat was struck repeatedly and seriously injured. He was rushed to Hamdard General Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead on arrival.

Speaking through tears, the victim’s mother, Jahanara Begum, described the harrowing scene: “My son was asleep at home when Taslima came to call him. I followed behind, but before we even entered the house, they began hacking him with cleavers. He only looked at me… how am I supposed to bear this grief?”

Jannat’s elder brother, Raju, added that the family had long-standing disputes with their neighbours over property boundaries. “They forcibly built a house on our land. When my brother was being attacked, they didn’t allow anyone to enter the house,” he said.

Dr. Maria Mostari, on duty at the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed: “He arrived at the hospital around 11 a.m. Upon preliminary examination, he was declared dead. The likely cause of death is severe blood loss; he had passed away before reaching the hospital.”

Officer-in-Charge of Gajaria Police Station, Md. Hasan Ali, stated that the authorities promptly arrived at the scene and the situation is now under control. Legal proceedings regarding the case are ongoing.
