Motivational Speaker Joins Pakistan Squad Ahead of India Clash

Pakistan are set to play their first Super Four match against arch-rivals India on Sunday, 21 September. In the build-up, the Pakistan cricket team have undergone intense training sessions to give their best, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken an unusual step — bringing in a motivational speaker to lift the players’ spirits.

By contrast, India’s cricketers opted for a lighter, more relaxed optional practice session.

During Pakistan’s pre-match training, Raheel Karim, a well-known motivational speaker in the country, was present. The PCB believes that the players have been under notable pressure and anxiety due to their recent performances, and Karim has been tasked with addressing this. Reports suggest he will remain with the squad for the rest of the tournament.

Karim brings considerable experience, having worked across sports and other professional fields. According to insiders, Pakistani players have been struggling to remain calm in high-pressure matches, especially before facing India. The move is aimed at boosting morale and sharpening focus in critical moments.

Some Indian media outlets have claimed that this mounting psychological pressure was the reason Pakistan cancelled their pre-match press conference.

These reports suggest that the team management sought to avoid uncomfortable questions about the handshake controversy that emerged from the last India–Pakistan match, preferring to shield the players from additional scrutiny.

Meanwhile, most Indian cricketers chose to rest on Saturday due to the heat and the travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. However, opener Shubman Gill broke away from the group and trained individually.

Gill’s form has been a concern: in his three matches so far in the tournament, he has scored only 35 runs. Seizing the extra time, the opener focused on correcting technical flaws and regaining touch. Apart from him, none of the other Indian players engaged in notable practice.

Training and Psychological Build-Up

Team Approach to Training Special Focus
Pakistan Intense practice with inclusion of motivational speaker Raheel Karim. Reducing anxiety, building mental resilience, handling pressure.
India Optional light training, most players resting. Shubman Gill worked individually to overcome poor form.

The stark contrast between the two camps underscores the different strategies being employed: Pakistan prioritising mental conditioning and India relying on rest and selective fine-tuning before the high-voltage encounter.
