A tragic road accident in Fatikchhari, Chattogram, has claimed the life of a motorcyclist and left his companion seriously injured. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at around 7:30 am on the Nanupara–Khiram Road, in the LombaTila area, when a motorcycle carrying two men collided with a brick-laden jeep.
The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Shakil, 42, a resident of Mogkata village in Khiram Union, and the son of Abdul Kader. His friend and fellow passenger, Alauddin Talukdar, 39, hailing from Anwara in Chattogram, was also injured in the collision. The pair were travelling from Chattogram to Fatikchhari, with Shakil driving the motorcycle. They had planned to visit Shakil’s family.
According to eyewitnesses and local police, the motorcycle collided head-on with a jeep transporting a heavy load of bricks. Both men sustained injuries, and local residents rushed them to Fatikchhari Health Complex. Unfortunately, Shakil was pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending medical team. Alauddin, who suffered serious injuries, was subsequently transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Fatikchhari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Muhammad Selim, confirmed the accident, stating: “A collision between a brick-laden jeep and a motorcycle has tragically resulted in the death of Muhammad Shakil. The family has requested to proceed with burial without a post-mortem. Once permission is granted, the body will be handed over to the family.”
Local sources noted that the narrowness of the road and the speed of heavy vehicles contributed to the severity of the accident. Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly on roads frequently used by both motorcycles and cargo-laden vehicles.
