Teachers from private educational institutions who are listed under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme are holding a massive rally in front of the National Press Club, demanding nationalisation and other benefits. After the rally, the teachers plan to march towards the Secretariat. As a result, traffic has been suspended on both sides of Topkhana Road, with vehicles being diverted to alternative routes.

The teachers have declared that they will not leave the area until their demands are met. The programme began at around 10:00 AM on Wednesday (13 August) in front of the National Press Club.

Their demands include:

Demand Details
Nationalisation Full recognition and government inclusion of MPO-listed institutions
Festival Allowance 100% festival bonus
House Rent 45% increment in house rent allowance
Medical Allowance Adequate medical support for teachers
Entertainment Allowance Provision of recreational benefits

Teachers from across the country have gathered in Dhaka to participate in this significant rally.

In anticipation of the event, security has been significantly heightened.

To maintain public order, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has prohibited all forms of meetings, rallies, assemblies, marches, human chains, sit-ins, strikes, and processions in front of key locations including:

  • The Secretariat
  • Official residence of the Chief Justice
  • Judges’ buildings and JAGES Complex
  • Main gate and Mazar gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court
  • Jame Masjid Gate
  • International Crimes Tribunal 1 and 2 entry gates
  • Judicial Administration Training Institute building

The DMP has also reiterated a request to the public and participants to refrain from obstructing roads under the guise of protest or demands, in order to prevent disruption to traffic.
