Mufti Fayzul Karim says: If BNP comes to power, beautiful women will not be able to go out on the streets

Mufti Muhammad Fayzul Karim, Naib-e-Amir of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB), has cautioned that the country could face anarchy if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) comes to power. He remarked:“If the BNP assumes power, people will not be able to sleep, businesses will suffer, and even women will not be safe to walk the streets. Be alert, citizens. How much longer will you tolerate extortion, oppression, and tyranny?”

Public Rally in Barisal

The comments were made on Sunday afternoon during a public rally organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the Bagerganj Government College grounds in Barisal. The rally focused on three key demands:

Essential state reforms

Implementation of the July Charter

National elections under the proportional representation (PR) system

Criticism of BNP and Awami League

Mufti Fayzul Karim criticised both the BNP and the Awami League, saying:“The extortion that led people to remove the Awami League remains, and has in fact increased. Rape has not decreased; it has risen compared to before. The land grabs and usurpation for which the Awami League was ousted continue unchecked.”

He further added:“During the current government, public killings among BNP members have occurred more openly than under the Awami League. If those responsible for these acts come to power, killings, rapes, and extortion will rise even further.”

Appeal to the Interim Government

Addressing the interim government, he urged:“If the PR system is not implemented, and if genocide crimes are not prosecuted, the government will not earn the trust of the people. We hoped inequality would end, but minorities remain deprived. From 1971 to 2024, no government has eradicated discrimination.”

He emphasised:“Change does not come simply by replacing a party or leader. What will a thief do if elected as an MP? Muslim League, Awami League, BNP—they have all ruled, yet peace has never reached the lives of ordinary citizens.”

The rally was chaired by Alhaj Maulana Nasir Uddin Rokon Dakua, President of Islami Andolan’s West Upazila Branch. Prominent participants included:
