Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Mexico, Mushfiqul Fazal Ansaree, has called for national unity to resist persistent anti-democratic conspiracies. Speaking at a commemorative discussion titled “July Uprising and the March towards Democracy”, organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Mexico, the ambassador warned that fugitives from justice remain active in undermining Bangladesh’s democratic progress.

The event was held on Friday to mark the anniversary of the historic July–August mass uprising, which was instrumental in restoring democracy in Bangladesh.

Highlights from Ambassador Mushfiq’s Speech

Institutional State & Reform Needs

Ambassador Mushfiq acknowledged the severely weakened state infrastructure inherited by the interim government:

  • Bureaucracy: Once neutral, had been turned into a mouthpiece of dictatorship.
  • Reform Urgency: Called for major bureaucratic reforms to restore public trust.

Ongoing Threats and the Need for Unity

“Those who once plotted against democracy remain active and dangerous. If they succeed in dividing us, their return will become easier,” Mushfiq warned.

  • He urged the public to preserve unity, stressing that differences must not evolve into hostility.
  • Underscored the importance of national solidarity as the foremost defence against autocratic resurgence.

Government Commitment Against Human Trafficking

The ambassador reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking:

Focus Area Commitment
Migration Routes Promotion of safe, regular, and lawful pathways
Legal Action Vow to prosecute traffickers

Community Engagement & Diplomatic Milestones

  • Ambassador Mushfiq extended an invitation to all expatriate Bangladeshis in Mexico to participate in upcoming events marking 50 years of Bangladesh-Mexico diplomatic relations.
  • A special photo exhibition will be featured among the celebratory programmes.
