Music Artist Hacked to Death in Narayanganj

A 32-year-old music artist, Suman Khalifa, has been brutally hacked to death in Narayanganj’s Fatullah area shortly after leaving a musical performance. Police recovered his body on Monday morning from a roadside spot beside an abandoned house in the Middle Narsinghpur neighbourhood, sparking shock and concern among residents and members of the local cultural community.

According to police and family sources, Suman had travelled to the Panchabati area of Fatullah on Sunday night to perform at a private cultural event. His wife, fellow singer Sonia Akter, accompanied him to the programme as they often performed as a duo. During the event, Suman reportedly stepped outside for a brief moment but never returned to the stage. When attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful, his family initially assumed he might have stepped away for personal reasons. However, as hours passed without any contact, worry began to grow.

The following morning, locals discovered a body lying near a deserted building in Middle Narsinghpur and informed the police. Officers from Fatullah Police Station arrived at the scene to find Suman’s lifeless body bearing severe injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon. Police say the nature of the wounds indicates the attack was deliberate and carried out with considerable force. His identity was later confirmed by family members.

Suman Khalifa, originally from Montu Khalifa’s family in Agoiljhara upazila of Barishal district, had been living in Narayanganj for his music career. He was known in local circles for performing at weddings, social gatherings and community events.

His wife, visibly devastated, recounted the final moments before her husband’s disappearance. “We were both on stage performing, and everything seemed normal. Suddenly Suman stepped outside and never came back. We kept waiting, thinking he would return. Then on Monday morning, we were informed that he had been killed and his body had been found. I cannot understand why anyone would do this to him,” Sonia said.

Police have yet to determine a clear motive for the killing. Additional Police Superintendent (Ka-Circle) Hasanuzzaman confirmed that the body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for post-mortem examination. Preliminary evidence suggests that a sharp weapon was used in the attack, but investigators have not yet been able to identify who carried out the killing or why.

Authorities say they are exploring multiple possible motives, including personal enmity, disputes related to music engagements, or other criminal elements active in the area. Officers are now reviewing call records, examining the victim’s recent activities, and seeking CCTV footage from the vicinity of the event and neighbouring areas.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the local music community, where artists often travel at night for performances and are considered vulnerable to criminal attacks. Fellow performers have expressed fear and frustration, urging law enforcement to ensure better protection for cultural workers who frequently move between venues late at night.

Police have assured that a thorough investigation is under way and have committed to identifying and arresting those responsible. Until then, the motive behind the killing of the young musician remains shrouded in mystery, leaving his family and colleagues demanding justice and clarity.
