Musk Declares Vance a ‘Future President’

WASHINGTON, 28 February 2025 (BSS/AFP) – Elon Musk has expressed his belief that US Vice President JD Vance will one day ascend to the presidency, following in the footsteps of his current superior, Donald Trump.

“Best VP ever and our future President,” the billionaire entrepreneur posted on his social media platform, X, on Friday.

Musk, the world’s richest individual and a key financial supporter of Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, had made a similar declaration the previous week, writing: “Best VP ever and hopefully our future President.”

Since the commencement of Trump’s second term last month, the president has entrusted Musk with significant authority over government restructuring. As head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has been tasked with spearheading initiatives to slash federal spending and overhaul bureaucratic agencies.

Despite officially holding the titles of “special government employee” and “senior adviser to the president,” Musk has frequently appeared by Trump’s side in the White House, often eclipsing Vance’s presence in the administration’s early weeks.

At 40, Vance is the third-youngest vice president in US history and among the least politically experienced, having served only a single term as a senator prior to assuming his current role.

Vance’s political trajectory has been marked by a dramatic shift in stance towards Trump. During the tycoon’s initial rise to power, Vance was a vocal opponent, branding Trump “a moral disaster” and likening him to Adolf Hitler. However, his position evolved significantly as he ventured into politics. By 2022, he had secured Trump’s endorsement in his successful Ohio Senate campaign, solidifying his transformation from staunch critic to loyal ally.

Background & Context:

JD Vance first gained public recognition as the author of Hillbilly Elegy, a memoir reflecting on working-class struggles in the American Midwest. His early political career was defined by scepticism towards Trump, but he later aligned himself with the former president’s populist movement, embracing a nationalist and conservative agenda.

Elon Musk’s growing involvement in US politics has also been a defining feature of Trump’s second term. With his influence extending beyond the private sector, Musk’s leadership of DOGE underscores his increasing role in shaping federal policy.

Trump’s continued dominance within the Republican Party, combined with Musk’s enthusiastic backing, positions Vance as a potential frontrunner for future presidential ambitions. However, whether he can command the same level of grassroots support as his predecessor remains to be seen.
