My TV Chairman Nasir Uddin Placed on 5-Day Remand

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for Nasir Uddin Sathi, Chairman of private television channel My TV, in connection with the murder case of Asadul Haque Babu, which arose from the anti-discrimination movement.

On Monday, 18 August, Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed of Dhaka Metropolitan Court passed the order.

Earlier, CID Police Inspector Khan Md. Erfan, the investigating officer of the case, produced Nasir before the court and sought a seven-day remand. During the hearing, the accused was brought into the courtroom.

Nasir Uddin was arrested from Gulshan, Dhaka, on 17 August.

 

According to case records, during the anti-discrimination movement on 5 August last year, Babu participated in a demonstration at Pakha Road under Jatrabari Police Station.

At around 2:30 pm, he was shot in the chest and right side after assailants opened fire. He was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Subsequently, on 30 August last year, the victim’s father Zainal Abedin filed a murder case at Jatrabari Police Station.

 

The case implicated 25 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The court has now approved Nasir Uddin’s remand for five days, allowing investigators to question him further regarding his alleged involvement in the killing.
