The South Keraniganj police have launched an intensive investigation following the discovery of a young woman’s body in a rented residence in the Khejurbag area of Shuivadhya Union. The deceased, identified as Farzana Akter (24), was discovered late on Saturday, 18 January 2026, under circumstances that have prompted allegations of foul play from her grieving relatives.
Farzana was the eldest daughter of Dulal Hawlader, originally hailing from the Choto Koi Khali region of Kathalia, Jhalokathi. According to family sources, she had arrived in Dhaka only ten days prior to the incident to seek medical treatment. During her stay, she resided in a rented apartment owned by one Pori Banu, located in the Tiles Mosque Lane of Khejurbag. She shared the accommodation with her husband, Rifat, her father-in-law, Abul Kalam, and her brother-in-law, Sobuj.

The victim’s mother, Maksuda Begum, has provided a haunting account of their final interaction. She claims to have spoken with Farzana on the telephone shortly before the tragedy occurred. During the brief conversation, Farzana reportedly mentioned that her brother-in-law, Sobuj, had just entered the room, before abruptly ending the call.
In the wake of the discovery, Farzana’s relatives have pointed the finger at Sobuj, suggesting his direct involvement in a potential homicide. Adding weight to these suspicions is the fact that Farzana’s husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law have all vanished. Neighbours and local sources confirm that the three men have been absconding since the morning of the incident.
Saiful Islam, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station, stated that the husband initially claimed to have found his wife lifeless upon returning from work. However, his subsequent disappearance has complicated this narrative.
The police recovered the body on Saturday night and prepared an inquest report before transferring the remains to the Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford) morgue for a formal autopsy. Authorities have emphasised that the exact cause of death will only be determined once the forensic results are released.
As of Monday morning, law enforcement agencies are conducting raids to apprehend the absconding family members. “We are exploring every lead,” OC Saiful Islam remarked. “The true nature of this incident will be revealed once the suspects are in custody and the medical examination is complete.”
