Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is set to announce the date of the national parliamentary elections within the next four to five days, according to Mostafa Jamal Haider, Chairman of the Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar faction). He shared the information with journalists on Saturday afternoon following a meeting at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Mostafa Jamal Haider remarked:
“The Chief Adviser categorically stated that he will declare the election schedule and date within four to five days. This was the most significant outcome of our discussions. The government has realised that the only solution to the current political instability is holding an election.”
He further added that nothing could be more encouraging than this announcement, as elections are expected to resolve much of the prevailing unrest.
During the post-meeting briefing, several other political leaders echoed similar sentiments:
| Party/Alliance | Leader | Key Statement |
| Bangladesh Labour Party | Mostafizur Rahman | Claimed the government has completely failed to maintain law and order. |
| National People’s Party (NPP) | Fariduzzaman | Urged the Chief Adviser to announce the election date immediately. |
| National Front of Bangladesh (NGF) | Aminul Haque Tipu | Reported that the Chief Adviser plans to hold elections by February next year. |
Fariduzzaman added that forming an elected government is vital for restoring peace and reducing terrorism and disorder in the country.
Earlier, Chief Adviser Dr Yunus held meetings in two phases with leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other political coalitions. In the afternoon session, he met with leaders from an additional 14 political parties and alliances.
