National Round of Primary School Gold Cup Football Kicks Off

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2025 (BSS) – The national round of the Primary School Gold Cup Football tournament officially began on Saturday at the National Bangla High School ground in Mirpur-2, Dhaka.

The event was inaugurated by Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, as the chief guest.

A total of eight boys’ and eight girls’ teams, representing the champions from each of the country’s eight divisions, are competing in the national round. The tournament’s grand finale is scheduled to take place at the National Stadium in Dhaka on February 27.

Match Results from Day One:

  • In the girls’ section, the first match saw Doharo Government Primary School from Shailakupa upazila of Jhenaidah district, under Khulna Division, defeat Ishwarganj Government Primary School from Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh district by 3-2 in a tiebreaker, after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
  • In the second girls’ match, Jorgacha Government Primary School from Santhia upazila, Pabna district (Rajshahi Division) triumphed over Shahjalal Government Primary School No. 37 from Jaintapur upazila, Sylhet district by 2-1.

In the boys’ section:

  • Deiara Anta Bunia Government Primary School from Koira upazila, Khulna district (Khulna Division) emerged victorious over Trishal Government Primary School from Trishal upazila, Mymensingh district by 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
  • Ichaghari Government Primary School from Sunamganj Sadar, Sylhet Division, secured a 2-0 win over Shiroil Colony Government Primary School from Boalia, Rajshahi district.

This year’s tournament saw boys’ and girls’ teams from 65,354 government primary schools across the country participating. After a series of local, upazila, district, and division-level competitions, the national round is now underway, featuring the champions of the eight divisions.
