Navy and Ansar Share Top Spot in President’s Cup Fencing

The ninth edition of the President’s Cup Fencing Championship concluded on Monday at the Shaheed Captain M. Mansur Ali Handball Stadium in Paltan, with Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Ansar emerging as joint champions. Both teams showcased outstanding skill and consistency, each securing six gold, five silver, and six bronze medals.

The Bangladesh Army finished as runners-up, claiming one gold, one silver, and eight bronze medals, demonstrating strong performances across multiple events.

In the individual events, the gold medal winners were as follows:

Men’s Foil: Mominur Rahman (Bangladesh Army)

Men’s Épée: Hasan Ali (Bangladesh Navy)

Men’s Sabre: Mohammad Kamruzzaman (Bangladesh Ansar)

Women’s Foil: Tanzila Akter Swapna (Bangladesh Navy)

Women’s Sabre: Mahbuba Khatun (Bangladesh Ansar)

Women’s Épée: Rabeya Akter (Bangladesh Ansar)

Team events further highlighted the dominance of the Navy and Ansar. In the men’s Épée team event, the Navy clinched gold, featuring Hasan Ali, Gopal Chandra Das, Faruk Hossain, and Rafi Babu. In the men’s Sabre team event, Bangladesh Ansar and Navy shared the gold medal: the Ansar team included Iftikharul Alam Bipul, Hasan, Mohammad Kamruzzaman, and Rasel Mia, while the Navy team consisted of Mohammad Al Amin, Mohammad Saddam Mujib, Golam Nabi, and Har Gobind Rai. The men’s Foil team gold went to Bangladesh Ansar, with team members Mohammad Riaz Ahmed, Mohammad Monir Hossain, Hasan Mia, and Mohammad Nefaur Rahman.

In the women’s team events, the Navy excelled, winning both the Foil and Sabre team golds. The Navy Foil team comprised Sheikh Mahmuda Imu, Naznin Sultana Suborna, Sanjida, and Tanzila Akter Swapna, while the Navy Sabre team included Fatema Mujib, Chandni Akter, Farzana Yasmin Nipa, and Priyanka Sikdar.

The championship concluded with a prize-giving ceremony, where the winners were awarded by Selim Fakir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The event was also attended by Executive Director of the National Sports Council, Daulatzaman Khan; Sheikh Rahi Mohammad Asif, Director of Akij Bashir Group; and Major (Retd.) Kamrul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Fencing Federation, along with Secretary Basunia M. Ashikul Islam.
