NCP Leader in Chattogram Expelled Over Financial Scandal Allegations

The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has expelled Nizam Uddin, Joint Coordinator of the party’s Chattogram Metropolitan unit, on charges of financial misconduct and serious breaches of party discipline.

The decision was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday, 12 August, signed by Saleh Uddin Sifat, Joint Member Secretary (Office) of the NCP.

The statement noted that the allegations, as reported by the media, were found to have prima facie validity. Consequently, the expulsion order takes immediate effect.

Prior to this, a notice signed by Arif Moinuddin, Joint Coordinator (Office) of NCP Chattogram Metropolitan, had been issued on 10 August. It referred to a video broadcast in various media outlets in which Nizam was accused of breaching party discipline, and he was asked to submit a written explanation within 24 hours.

The Video Controversy

The video in question features an alleged Messenger conversation between Nizam Uddin and Aftab Hossain Rifat, the Port-Based Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Nizam’s Response

In a Facebook Live broadcast, Nizam Uddin claimed the video was fabricated and deliberately circulated to damage his political career. He denied accepting any money and called for an investigation by intelligence agencies.

Past Allegations

This is not the first time Nizam has faced controversy. He had previously been accused of extortion and of framing individuals in false cases. At that time, his party position had been suspended but was later reinstated.
