‘NCP’s Absence from July Charter Signature Will Not Affect the Election’

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has stated that the National Citizen Party (NCP) and several other political parties’ failure to sign the July Charter will not significantly impact the upcoming national election.

He made the remark on Saturday morning while speaking to journalists after paying homage at the mausoleum of late President Ziaur Rahman in Chandrima Udyan, Dhaka, marking the 26th founding anniversary of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation.

Salahuddin Ahmed sharply criticised the ruling party, accusing them of creating unrest in the capital.

“The so-called ‘July Warriors’ — essentially the Awami fascist forces — caused chaos in the parliamentary area yesterday. The real July warriors would never act in such a manner,”
he said, condemning what he described as an orchestrated disturbance by government loyalists.

The BNP leader clarified that the NCP’s decision not to sign the July Charter, along with a few other smaller parties, was “not a major issue” and should not be over-interpreted.

“The signing window for the Charter remains open. I believe that the NCP and other political groups will eventually come forward and endorse it,”
he added optimistically.

Ahmed further called upon all political actors to embrace patience, tolerance, and democratic practice in the lead-up to the national election.

He urged both ruling and opposition camps to maintain restraint and political civility amid the growing tension surrounding the electoral process.

“We must move forward through patience, mutual respect, and a commitment to democracy. Everyone should exercise restraint as the election approaches,”
he said, stressing the importance of national stability and mature political conduct.
