Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, has declared that those responsible for last week’s arson, vandalism, and widespread destruction during the Gen-Z protests will face justice without exemption.
She emphasised that such acts of violence amount to criminal offences against the state, and assured that the government will conduct thorough investigations followed by strict judicial proceedings.
Speaking to journalists in Kathmandu on Sunday, Prime Minister Karki stated: “The destruction of state institutions, the Parliament building, the Supreme Court, businesses, or private property cannot be excused. The people of this country seek security and peace, and we are committed to restoring that peace.”
She further announced that relief and rehabilitation measures would be provided swiftly to those who have been injured or suffered losses due to the unrest. The security forces have been ordered to pursue investigations rigorously.
The Prime Minister’s Declaration
| Priority | Details Announced by PM Sushila Karki |
| First | Stand beside the victims of violence and provide immediate relief. |
| Second | Restore law and order across the country. |
| Third | Organise the general elections on schedule. |
This marks her first major policy announcement since assuming charge of the interim administration.
Prime Minister Karki confirmed that the next general election will be held on 5 March 2026, ensuring that power returns to the hands of the people through the ballot.
She cautioned, however, that before elections are held, those engaged in anti-state activities must face prosecution.
Political analysts view this government announcement as a crucial development amid Nepal’s ongoing political instability.
They argue that while the Gen-Z-led movement has added a new dimension to national politics, its turn towards violence has posed a formidable challenge for the government.
