The much-anticipated Asia Cup is set to commence on 9 September, and as part of their enhanced preparations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been working to organise an international series ahead of the tournament. Responding positively to BCB’s initiative, the Royal Dutch Cricket Association has agreed to send the Netherlands national team for a T20 series in Dhaka.
Following their recent series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Bangladesh national team players have been enjoying a short break of about two weeks. However, many squad members have remained active during this period with individual training and gym sessions.
Planned Series Details
According to a reliable source within the BCB, the Netherlands team is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on 14 August for a three-match T20I series. The matches are expected to take place between 19 and 25 August.
This series, led by captain Litton Das, is intended to serve as a final touch-up to Bangladesh’s Asia Cup preparations. In fact, preparations have been in motion for some time already, with confidence riding high following successive series wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Status: Discussions in Final Stages
Confirming the progress, BCB Director Iftikhar Rahman Mithu stated:
“Before the Asia Cup, we initially attempted to arrange a series with a full-member Test-playing nation, but none could align their schedules with ours. We then reached out to Nepal, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The Dutch team responded positively. Although not yet finalised, we expect to make an official announcement within the next couple of days if all goes according to plan.”
He also noted that the Dutch participation hinges on budget approvals and logistical finalisations from their end.
Bangladesh’s Group in Asia Cup
In the upcoming Asia Cup, Bangladesh have been drawn in Group B, where they will face:
The top two teams from the group stage will qualify for the Super Four, where each team will play three matches. The two teams with the highest points will then compete in the final.
Bigger Picture: Eye on T20 World Cup 2026
The BCB is treating the Asia Cup as a crucial stepping stone towards the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. The series against the Netherlands is viewed not just as preparation for the continental tournament, but as part of a broader strategy for global competition.
This pre-Asia Cup series will thus be a vital phase in assessing player form, team combinations, and overall readiness for the upcoming cricketing challenges.
