In response to the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh, the Indian Army has rapidly established a new military base in Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal. Simultaneously, a new military station is being set up in Dhubri, Assam, to strengthen border security with the neighboring country.
On Thursday, Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, head of the Eastern Command, inspected the newly constructed base in Chopra, located near the Bangladesh border.
The Eastern Command of the Indian Army stated, “Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, Army Commander of the Eastern Command, met with troops of the Brahmastra Corps stationed at Chopra Defence Land. He praised their professionalism, enthusiasm, and relentless effort in establishing and operationalizing the base in a short time. He urged the troops to maintain maximum readiness and remain active in addressing emerging security challenges.”
The Eastern Command also noted, “The Army Commander met with local MLA Hamidul Rahman and other civic leaders. He emphasized strengthening civil-military cooperation and working together for regional security and development.”
Earlier, Lieutenant General Tiwari inspected the headquarters of the 4 (Gajraj) Corps in Assam’s border area and laid the foundation stone for the Lachit Barphukan Military Station in Bamunigaon, Dhubri.
The Eastern Command said, “The new station is named after the legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, symbolizing courage, leadership, and resilience, reflecting the revived heritage of Assam.”
The organization further stated, “This new military station is an important step toward strengthening the region’s military capability and infrastructure.”
During the inspection, Lieutenant General Tiwari reviewed the internal security situation of the border area and the progress of military infrastructure development.
