Tragically, Abdul Mohit Rajon, a 30-year-old resident of Anandpur village in the Gopaya Union of Habiganj Sadar, has lost his life just a month after his marriage. On Sunday, 21 December, local time, Rajon was fatally struck by a speeding lorry while crossing the road in the Yasmin district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rajon, the son of Nur Mia, had recently married in July 2024. According to family sources, he left his newlywed wife behind and travelled to Saudi Arabia shortly after the wedding in search of better employment opportunities. He had been living in Riyadh at the time of the accident. The Saudi authorities have since apprehended the lorry driver responsible.
Md. Abdul Mannan, Chairman of Gopaya Union Parishad, confirmed the incident, stating that he visited Rajon’s family home on Monday after learning of the tragedy. A colleague from Brahmanbaria has already initiated arrangements to repatriate the body to Bangladesh. Chairman Mannan added, “I will ensure that the local administration is fully informed and involved to provide any necessary support.”
Meanwhile, Fatema Tuz Johra Sania, the Executive Officer of Habiganj Sadar Upazila, remarked that she was not yet fully briefed on the incident. She assured that a thorough inquiry would be conducted and that the administration would provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
Local residents describe Rajon as a hardworking and responsible young man, devoted to his family. His untimely death has left the household in profound grief, particularly his young wife, who remains in Bangladesh. The tragedy underscores the vulnerabilities faced by expatriate workers abroad, particularly regarding road safety in busy foreign cities.
