Neymar Makes Big Decision, World Cup Uncertainty

Neymar, the star player of the Brazil national team and a key performer in the last three World Cups, now faces uncertainty over his participation in the 2026 World Cup. The main reason is his injury. Six months before the tournament, Neymar has taken a major decision regarding his fitness.

This morning, Neymar’s club Santos played their final league match against Cruzeiro, securing a 3–0 victory. The win ensured the team avoided relegation and confirmed their participation in the continental competition, Copa Sudamericana.

Neymar suffered a meniscus injury on 25 November. Despite this, he played several matches, scoring five goals and providing one assist to help Santos avoid relegation. After today’s match, he announced that he will now undergo knee surgery.

Speaking to reporters, Neymar said, “I came to help as much as I could. It has been a very difficult few weeks for me. I am grateful to those who supported me. Without them, I could not have played despite the injury. Now I need rest, then the surgery will take place.”

Since 2023, after sustaining an injury during the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, Neymar has been unable to play for the national team. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Neymar must be fully fit to return to the squad.
