An armed attack and mugging took place in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area at noon, targeting Sabina Yasmin (35), an NGO worker. The assailants fled after looting her money and jewellery.
The incident occurred around 2:30pm on Wednesday (26 November) in the Dholairpar area of Jatrabari.
Colleagues rescued Sabina in a critically injured condition and took her to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Sabina Yasmin works as a field officer at an NGO named Manobik Sohayota Songstha.
Her colleague, Fatema Begum, stated that Sabina was returning on foot after office-related work. Upon reaching the Dholairpar area, three to four muggers suddenly attacked her from behind and stabbed her four times in the neck with a sharp weapon. They then snatched her monthly salary of 25,000 taka and her gold chain before fleeing.
She added that Sabina collapsed on the ground, bleeding heavily, after which colleagues rushed her to DMCH. She subsequently underwent surgery in the emergency department’s operating theatre.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, said Sabina was brought to the hospital around 3:30pm in a severely injured state. She received treatment in the emergency operating theatre. Jatrabari Police Station has been informed of the incident.
