Bangladesh Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarkar has affirmed that the national election will unquestionably take place in February 2026, stating that all relevant government agencies are already working in coordination to ensure smooth preparation for the polls.
He emphasised that there is “no uncertainty whatsoever” regarding the timing of the election, adding that the police have begun specialised training sessions and strengthened their operational readiness to assist in election management and security.
Commissioner Anwarul made these remarks on Saturday, 18 October, while addressing a workshop titled “Duties of Polling Officials in the Electoral Process: Identifying Challenges and Ways to Overcome Them” at the FIBDB Central Training Centre in Shantiganj, Sunamganj.
During his keynote address, the Election Commissioner urged officials to maintain strict neutrality throughout the electoral process, assuring them that their security would be automatically ensured.
“Every official must remain impartial in discharging their duties. Your safety is our responsibility. A Presiding Officer is essentially the Chief Election Commissioner of his polling centre — therefore, you must fully understand the law. Only then will you perform your duties correctly and confidently,”

Commissioner Anwarul further stated that the current Election Commission is “not like the previous ones” and remains firmly committed to holding free, fair, and transparent elections at any cost.
He assured that comprehensive security measures would be implemented to protect both voters and polling centres.
“No one will be spared if they attempt to disrupt law and order during the election. We will ensure maximum safety for voters and polling stations. The entire nation — indeed, the world — is watching us in the hope of witnessing a credible and beautiful election,” he said.
The Commissioner also discussed the unique challenges of conducting elections in haor (wetland) regions, noting that many polling centres in Sunamganj are located in remote and high-risk areas.
| Region | Type of Area | Identified Issue | Proposed Measure |
| Sunamganj | Haor (wetland) and remote villages | Risk-prone polling centres due to inaccessibility | Higher allocation and logistical support to be recommended |
He stated that additional funds and logistical support would be proposed for these regions to ensure that every voter can exercise their democratic right safely and effectively.
“We will not allow the election to be tainted or corrupted. Both the people of Bangladesh and the international community are eagerly waiting to see a fair and dignified electoral process,” he added.
The workshop was presided over by Regional Election Officer Md. Alauddin, with several senior officials attending as special guests, including:
| Name | Designation | Affiliation |
| K.M. Ali Newaz | Additional Secretary | Election Commission Secretariat |
| Dr. Mohammad Ilyas Mia | Deputy Commissioner | Sunamganj District |
| Tofail Ahmed | Superintendent of Police | Sunamganj |
| Muhammad Mostafa Hasan | Deputy Chief (Deputy Secretary), Project Director (BTEB) | Election Commission Secretariat |
Following the inaugural session, a day-long workshop commenced, focusing on equipping polling officials with practical skills and insights into the challenges of conducting elections.
Officials were divided into groups and provided with detailed guidance on ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election. The training included discussions, role-based exercises, and case studies on crisis management during polling.
The Election Commission reaffirmed its determination to uphold electoral integrity and to deliver a national election that reflects the true will of the people of Bangladesh.
