S M Forhad, the General Secretary (GS) candidate from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-supported panel for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU/Daksu) election, has issued a stern warning. He stated that any student organisation attempting to derail or sabotage the Daksu polls would lose its existence on the campus.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Forhad addressed questions regarding concerns over holding the polls: “If you do not want Daksu, if you try to sabotage it, your existence here will cease to exist. Daksu must be held, no one will succeed through conspiracy. The election will take place on time.”
He further stressed that students across Dhaka University share a unified stance that Daksu elections must be held as scheduled, and therefore, there is no fear of delay. According to him, any conspiracy would be foiled by the collective resistance of the student body.
Referring to the High Court’s ruling and the subsequent student response, Forhad, also the President of Shibir’s Dhaka University unit, remarked: “Someone may attempt a conspiracy, someone may plan it deliberately, but what we have witnessed in terms of the spontaneous reaction of Dhaka University students in the last two days—such a response cannot be manufactured. It comes naturally, because Daksu is deeply rooted in the soul of every student.”
The Shibir leader welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision that cleared obstacles to holding the election:
Forhad underlined that the Supreme Court’s intervention was crucial for ensuring that the election goes forward despite hurdles, emphasising that student aspirations were finally being honoured.
