No Significant Improvement in Khaleda Zia’s Condition

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has shown no significant improvement. Despite several rounds of medical tests, her primary health complications have not yet been brought under control, according to responsible sources.

Doctors on the medical board overseeing her treatment said that Khaleda Zia’s diabetes, kidney, heart and lung complications are fluctuating. Due to this uncertainty, she has been kept under continuous close observation for several days.

A source involved in decisions regarding her treatment and overseas travel said on Sunday night that doctors, after reviewing her latest condition, have postponed her foreign travel by a further two days. Considering the risks of a long journey, the decision now depends entirely on any changes in her condition over the next 24 to 48 hours. According to the source, based on the most recent information available until Sunday night, there has been neither improvement nor deterioration; her condition remains largely unchanged.

Sources said that members of the medical board held an emergency meeting on Saturday night to review Khaleda Zia’s overall condition. Following the meeting, several tests were conducted on Saturday and Sunday. Another board meeting is scheduled for today, Monday, where the latest test reports will be reviewed to decide whether any changes to the treatment plan are necessary.

A doctors’ source said that every change in Khaleda Zia’s condition is being closely monitored. Particular attention is being given to fluctuations in her diabetes, declining kidney function and heart-related complications, while her lung condition is also being regularly observed. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, is involved in the treatment process and has been visiting the hospital daily since arriving in Dhaka from London.

Doctors said that overall the situation is neither stable nor critically worsening. However, as the core problems remain uncontrolled despite no new complications, she is likely to require continued close monitoring.

A close source to the medical board said that Khaleda Zia’s diabetes, kidney, heart and lung problems sometimes remain under control but can suddenly go out of control, making it impossible to describe her overall condition as stable. The latest tests show some progress in kidney and lung conditions, but doctors say these improvements are insufficient to reduce overall risk, and she is not yet out of danger.

Due to this uncertainty, the possible date for her travel abroad has been repeatedly changed. Initially, the BNP said she would be taken to London early Friday (5 December). Later, a new date of 7 December was announced, followed by another update at night setting 9 December as the possible travel date. However, that date also remains uncertain.

Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital for more than two weeks. Her critical health condition has caused widespread concern among people across the country.
