Shariatpur police have apprehended Pir Touhidul Hossain Shaheen Noori (49), the principal suspect in the widely publicised murder of Khadim Zaynal Sardar. The arrest took place early Wednesday morning (4 March) at his residence in Naria, during which authorities also recovered weapons and other significant evidence linked to the crime.
According to police reports and court documents, the sequence of events began on 24 October last year, when Zaynal Sardar left his home around 4:00 PM. Later that evening, at approximately 9:00 PM, he returned briefly to deliver his mother’s medication before leaving again. When he failed to return by 11:00 PM, his family initiated a search. The following day, relatives discovered furniture belonging to him at a local garage, raising further alarm.
Eventually, residents of Atpara in the Ghorishar Union spotted a plastic-wrapped body floating in a nearby pond and immediately notified the authorities. Police recovered the body at the scene, which was later positively identified by the victim’s family. On 25 October, Zaynal’s daughter, Isha Akter (20), filed a murder complaint at Naria Police Station against unidentified individuals.
Investigating officer Md. Robiul Haque reviewed video footage, which helped identify two key suspects. One of them, Md. Robin Sheikh (32), was arrested in Munshiganj. Information obtained from Robin, combined with forensic video analysis, led to the identification of Pir Touhidul as the mastermind behind the killing, culminating in his arrest in the early hours of Wednesday.
During the operation, police recovered numerous items from Touhidul’s residence, including weapons and digital devices believed to contain critical evidence.
