Objections Raised Over Tamim–Faruk’s Councillorship in BCB Elections

Following the release of the draft councillor list for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, 24 September marked the final day for submitting objections. A total of 30 objections were received throughout the day.

Among the objections, questions were raised regarding the councillorship of two former national team captains, Faruk Ahmed and Tamim Iqbal.

Objections Against Tamim Iqbal

  • Tamim Iqbal has not officially retired from cricket.
  • He has been nominated as a councillor for Old DOHS Club, but it has been alleged that he holds no formal position or designation within the club.
  • The objection argues that an active cricketer cannot participate in board administration, citing that there is no precedent for such involvement.
  • Based on these concerns, the objection demands the cancellation of Tamim Iqbal’s councillorship.

Objections Against Faruk Ahmed

  • Questions have also been raised about Faruk Ahmed’s councillorship.
  • It is alleged that his documents were submitted to the election commission well past the stipulated deadline.

According to the BCB election schedule, hearings for all objections related to councillorship will take place tomorrow, 25 September.

On the same day, hearings will also be held regarding 15 clubs under the supervision of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC / DUDOK).

Representatives of the ACC-supervised clubs, current director Iftikhar Rahman Mithu and former director Lokman Hossain, have raised concerns, stating: “This time, incidents are occurring in the election that we have never seen before.”

  • They assert that they are positioned correctly according to the constitution.
  • They expect a fair and just decision from the election commission.
