RAB has arrested former branch manager Alamgir Hossain on allegations of misappropriating around Tk 9.25 crore from two branches of the Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank in Noakhali. He was detained around 9:30pm on Saturday from a residence in Chattogram.
RAB reported that Alamgir Hossain used forged national identity cards and fake mobile numbers to issue loans in the names of various individuals and embezzle the money. After the bank’s internal probe confirmed the allegations, the Anti-Corruption Commission examined records on 20 October and later filed two cases with the Noakhali Special Senior Judge Court. He had already been dismissed from service after the accusations were found to be true.
Mohammad Faruk Ahmed, deputy director of the Noakhali district office of the ACC, said two cases were lodged against Alamgir Hossain on charges of misappropriating more than Tk 9 crore. With the help of RAB, he has been arrested and produced before the court.
Md. Sujon Mia, deputy director and district commandant of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party in Noakhali, stated that the accused had shown fake loans in the names of several members and diverted the money. The ACC and the bank’s internal investigation confirmed the matter.
