The interim government of Bangladesh has officially appointed Omar Bin Hadi as the Second Secretary to the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The appointment, announced on Thursday, 16 January 2026, marks a significant move in the country’s diplomatic restructuring.
Omar Bin Hadi is the brother of the late Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, the former convener of the Inqilab Mancha, whose contributions remain a point of public discourse. This contractual appointment was formalised through a gazette notification issued by the Contract and Foreign Appointment Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration.
According to the official notification, Mr. Hadi will serve in his post for a tenure of three years, effective from his date of joining. The appointment is subject to several professional constraints to ensure total commitment to the diplomatic mission:
Exclusivity: During his tenure, he is strictly prohibited from engaging in any other profession, business, or holding any position in government, semi-government, or private organisations.
Legal Framework: Other terms and conditions of his service will be governed by the specific contract signed between the appointee and the government.
Public Interest: The order, signed by Joint Secretary Abul Hayat Md. Rafique on behalf of the President, emphasises that this decision has been made in the interest of the public service.
Interestingly, reports from within the diplomatic circuit suggest that a dedicated vacancy for a Second Secretary did not previously exist at the Birmingham mission. However, a senior diplomat from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that when the Ministry of Public Administration issues such an appointment, the necessary position is effectively created through administrative procedure.
