On August 5 We Hanged a Policeman We’ll Hang You Next: Two Youths Threaten Traffic Sergeant in Uttara

Two young men have been accused of threatening a traffic police sergeant in Dhaka’s Uttara after being signaled to stop for not wearing helmets. They reportedly told the sergeant, On August 5 we killed a policeman and hanged him. Looks like we’ll have to hang you next.

The incident took place on Wednesday (October 29) near the BNS Center area on the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway.

Following the incident, the two men were fined and sentenced by a mobile court. The convicted individuals were identified as Sadiqur Rahman, son of Md. Mofizullah, and Abdur Rahim, son of Mofizur Rahman, both residents of Bawnia, Turag in Dhaka.

Md. Mahbubur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Uttara East Zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division, confirmed the matter to the media on Wednesday night.

He said that on Wednesday morning, Traffic Sergeant Ali was on duty managing traffic congestion in the area. Around 9 a.m., he signaled a motorcycle to stop for not wearing helmets and proceeded to file a case as per traffic laws. At that point, the motorcyclist Sadiqur Rahman and pillion rider Md. Abdur Rahim verbally abused the sergeant and issued threats, saying, “On August 5 we killed a policeman and hanged him. Looks like we’ll have to hang you next.

The AC added that Sergeant Ali immediately informed his superiors about the incident. Later, a patrol team from Uttara West Police Station detained the two men. They were subsequently sent to the DMP’s Special Magistrate Court, where the court sentenced motorcyclist Sadiqur Rahman to one month in jail and fined passenger Abdur Rahim Tk 500.
