One Dead, Two Injured in Explosion at Japanese Auto Parts Plant

TOKYO, 6 March 2025 (BSS/AFP) – A powerful explosion at an auto parts manufacturing plant in central Japan on Thursday resulted in the death of one person and left two others injured, according to local media reports.

The blast occurred at Chuo Spring Co’s facility in Toyota City, a major hub for Japan’s automotive industry. Emergency responders received a call reporting that “a dust collector exploded” and that the “rooftop came off,” according to Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting and Nagoya Broadcasting Network.

Following the explosion, a fire broke out at the plant, with firefighters working to contain the blaze. As of now, officials from the local fire department have not provided further details or confirmed the full extent of the damage.

Chuo Spring Co is known for manufacturing key automotive components, including suspension springs and precision metal parts, which are supplied to major vehicle manufacturers.

Industrial accidents, particularly in factories handling combustible materials, remain a concern in Japan, despite stringent safety regulations. This incident underscores the potential hazards faced by workers in high-risk industrial environments. Authorities are expected to launch an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess whether safety protocols were adequately followed.
