One Killed by Drone in Russia’s Belgorod

MOSCOW, 27 February 2025 (BSS/AFP) – Russia’s Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that it had intercepted and destroyed 19 drones overnight across various regions of the country, including the annexed Crimean Peninsula. Meanwhile, local authorities reported the death of one person in the Belgorod region following a drone attack.

The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed that a civilian lost their life when an explosive device, launched from a drone, struck a vehicle in the town of Graivoron. No further significant damage has been reported by Russian officials or state media.

This latest incident comes as Kyiv continues to intensify its aerial assaults on Russian energy and military infrastructure in response to Moscow’s sustained bombardment of Ukrainian cities and key installations.

In recent months, Ukraine has increasingly targeted border regions such as Belgorod, Kursk, and Bryansk, which have been used as staging areas for Russian military operations. Ukrainian drone strikes have disrupted supply chains and energy facilities deep within Russia, prompting heightened air defence measures.

The escalation reflects the ongoing tit-for-tat strikes in the conflict, with both sides seeking to weaken the other’s strategic assets. Russian authorities have urged residents in affected regions to remain vigilant as cross-border attacks persist.
