Locals in the capital’s Pallabi area chased and caught a suspect and handed him over to the police in connection with the killing of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria. On Monday evening, a group of assailants arriving on motorcycles entered the Bikrampur Hardware and Sanitary shop located on Road 5 of Block C in Section 12 of Pallabi and shot the Jubo Dal leader dead.
Police sources said that around 6:40 pm on Monday, three motorcycle-borne assailants entered the Bikrampur Hardware and Sanitary shop and fired seven rounds at Golam Kibria, pressing the pistol against his head, chest, and back, before fleeing. At that moment, locals chased and detained one of the attackers and handed him over to the police. Police suspect that Pata Sohel and his followers were involved in the incident.
Seven empty shell casings were recovered from the scene. The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Abdur Razzaq, Joint Convenor of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP, told the media that after Maghrib prayers in Pallabi, shots were fired targeting the Jubo Dal Thana Member-Secretary Golam Kibria. He was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital in an unconscious state, where doctors declared him dead. He could not provide any idea about who was responsible for the shooting.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mofizur Rahman said that efforts are underway to investigate who shot Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria. Operations are ongoing to arrest those involved in the incident.
