Naomi Osaka, the Japanese four-time Grand Slam singles champion, has embarked on a trial coaching partnership with Tomasz Wiktorowski following her recent split from French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, which lasted less than a year.
The announcement came via Osaka’s social media post on Monday, just hours before she defeated Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault 6–4, 6–2 in 76 minutes during her first-round match at the WTA Canadian Open in Montreal.
Osaka’s Coaching Transition
| Coach | Duration | Key Notes |
| Patrick Mouratoglou | Sep 2023 – Jul 2024 | Former coach of Serena Williams; parted ways amicably |
| Tomasz Wiktorowski | Trial from Jul 2024 | Former coach of Agnieszka Radwanska and Iga Świątek |
Wiktorowski, a seasoned Polish coach, previously guided Agnieszka Radwanska (2011–2018), helping her reach the Wimbledon final and attain a career-high world no. 2 ranking in July 2012.
He later coached Iga Świątek from late 2021 to October 2023—a period during which she captured four of her six Grand Slam singles titles, including the Wimbledon title earlier this month.
Osaka’s Recent Performance
Reflections on Mouratoglou Partnership
Osaka expressed heartfelt appreciation for Mouratoglou:
“Merci Patrick, it was such a great experience learning from you.
Wishing you nothing but the best. You’re one of the coolest people I’ve ever met and I’m sure I’ll see you around.”
Mouratoglou responded warmly on Instagram:
“Grateful for the trust, the journey, and what we have built together.
I will always root for you.”
Injury Setbacks and 2024 Season Highlights
Despite some flashes of promise under Mouratoglou, Osaka’s 2024 season has been plagued by injuries:
| Tournament | Result | Notes |
| Auckland Open (Jan) | Reached final, then retired | Abdominal injury |
| Australian Open | Won two matches, retired third | Re-aggravated abdominal issue |
| L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo | Champion (May) | First WTA title since 2021 Australian Open |
| French Open | First round exit | |
| Wimbledon | Third round exit |
As Osaka navigates this transitional phase with Wiktorowski, both fans and analysts will be closely watching to see whether the partnership helps reignite her Grand Slam ambitions and elevate her consistency on tour.
