The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has reported that over 648,000 postal ballots submitted via the ‘Postal Vote BD’ mobile application have already been received by returning officers. This figure reflects data collected up to 2:00 pm on Thursday.
The EC emphasised that the app-based system, introduced for voters residing within the country but unable to attend polling stations, has proven effective in facilitating participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Under this scheme, the majority of ballots sent through the postal service have successfully reached voters, and most recipients have already cast their votes, depositing them either at post offices or designated mailboxes.
According to official statistics, a total of 760,898 ballots were dispatched to voters across Bangladesh. Of these, 681,819 recipients confirmed receipt of their ballots. Among those who received ballots, 674,376 voters have already cast their votes, with 669,950 subsequently submitting them via post offices or official ballot boxes. Notably, 648,294 of these ballots have been successfully returned to the relevant returning officers, ensuring their inclusion in the electoral process.
The following table summarises the key figures:
| Category | Number of Ballots/Voters |
|---|---|
| Ballots dispatched | 760,898 |
| Ballots received by voters | 681,819 |
| Votes cast | 674,376 |
| Votes submitted via post | 669,950 |
| Ballots received by returning officers | 648,294 |
EC officials highlighted that the mobile application has provided an efficient alternative for voters unable to physically attend polling stations due to work, health, or other constraints. The digital platform allows voters to track the status of their ballots, submit them securely, and confirm receipt by election authorities.
This initiative is part of the commission’s broader effort to enhance voter participation and streamline the electoral process. Officials emphasised that the postal voting system adheres to strict security and accountability protocols to ensure the integrity of the election.
The EC also indicated that further updates on ballot returns and voter participation will be provided as the election day approaches, ensuring transparency and public confidence in the process. With over 648,000 ballots already in the hands of returning officers, the postal voting system is expected to play a significant role in enabling broader voter engagement across the country.
