Overnight Clash Between Daffodil and City University Students

A violent clash erupted between students of Daffodil International University and City University in Savar, triggered by a minor incident. The confrontation, which continued until early morning, left at least fifty students from both universities injured.

The skirmishes took place in phases from 12:00 am to 4:30 am on Sunday (26 October) in the Khagan area of Birulia Union, Savar.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began in the evening when a City University student spat from a motorcycle in front of the Bachelor Paradise Hostel, hitting a Daffodil student. A verbal argument ensued, and by around 9:00 pm, 40–50 City University students armed with makeshift weapons and bricks attacked the Daffodil hostel, causing damage to several rooms.

The video of the incident quickly circulated on social media, escalating tensions among Daffodil students. As the night progressed, over a thousand students gathered and advanced towards City University, resulting in a full-scale confrontation.

Scenes of panic unfolded, with fires breaking out and chaos all around. The Daffodil proctorial team failed to control the situation. After midnight, Daffodil students reportedly entered City University premises, causing extensive damage to administrative buildings and other facilities. Computers and other valuables were looted, three buses and a private car were set on fire, and five more vehicles were vandalised.

Several incidents of crude explosive devices being detonated were also reported, further adding to the chaos. At least fifty students from both universities were injured during the hours-long confrontation.

Eyewitnesses alleged that despite the four-hour-long clash, the law enforcement agencies did not intervene to assist the students. Tension remains high at the scene.

Savar police duty officer SI Habibur Rahman stated, “Our senior officers are present at the site. The situation is now under control.”
